Fashion and the Digital Revolution

Digital technology and fashion is a relationship that is going from strength-to-strength in recent seasons. There’s no doubting that the digital revolution is in full swing. As a social media advisor in my professional life and a fashion blogger inmy personal, it is a collaboration that I wholeheartedly support and actively follow.
Burberry, being the digital innovators of the international fashion world, have revolutionised the field. Burberry have continued to impress in just about every digital channel; from acquiring approximately 8.5 million fans on Facebook to the live streaming of last year’s London Fashion Week spring/summer 2011 catwalk show on to Piccadilly Circus.
However, the campaign that captured the world’s attention was the psychedelic catwalk show featuring hologram models, to celebrate the launch of its Beijing flagship store. The show featured six hologram models, including Edie Campbell, walking through one another, bursting into snowflakes and multiplying along the catwalk. It was a visual masterpiece!
The trend has also filtered on to the high street with the Bullring showcasing ‘The Show: redefinition’ as part of Style Birmingham Live from Friday 23 – Sunday 25 September. The Bullring will set the stage for yet another digital technology and fashion collaboration. This will involve real-life models walking the catwalk against a holographic backdrop.
The Show: Redefinition; has taken inspiration from the autumn/winter 2011 key trends, including gothic and 40s Hollywood. What makes this fashion show even more accessible is that you can buy all of the affordable looks from the shops within the Bullring. It is great to see a catwalk show that is available to the general public. Let the revolution continue!
