Florence and the Machine Wears Gucci on US Tour

Florence and the Machine selected Gucci to dress her for her recent US tour. I've been meaning to write about this for a couple of weeks but have finally got round to it... Anyway, a huge round of applause is needed for head designer Frida Giannini for creating such beautiful dresses in Florence’s typical dreamy and ethereal style. Visually, the results were amazing: what a match made in fashion heaven!

Frida Giannini said of the collaboration:

"When Florence first came onto the scene, I was captivated by her eccentric style and her willingness to dare," says Giannini, "I felt there was such an authentic energy to her sound and her look. This was confirmed when I met her at the Grammys earlier this year. I used one of Florence's songs, 'Hurricane Drunk,' to set the mood for my Autumn Winter women's show, as she was truly an inspiration for this collection as a modern day icon with her cinematic allure and powerful presence."

Florence Welch responded:

"I was extremely flattered when I heard that Frida's collection had been inspired in part by my performances, and I was completely bowled over by her collection, the dresses seemed perfect for my shows, the colours, the shapes, the movement in the fabric. So it seemed natural that we work together on creating some pieces for my upcoming U.S. tour. I'm very grateful to Frida. It's been a wonderful experience, and I can't wait to get dressed for the stage!

Gucci and Fiat 500 Collaboration

Happy birthday to Gucci and Italy! Gucci celebrates its astonishing 90th year, and Italy, its relatively young landmark, 150th year of its unification! Both Gucci and Italy are close to my heart as my mother is Milanese, and I have always admired the Italian fashion house.

What better way to celebrate than the collaboration betwee
n two iconic Italian brands, which are renowned both for their style, and being quintessentially Italian. (Yes, I too was shocked to hear about a collaboration that didn’t include either Karl Lagerfeld or Henry Holland!)

The celebration comes in the form of a special edition Fia
t 500 that Gucci’s Creative Director, Frida Giannini designed herself. This meeting of minds ultimately makes the Fiat 500 a product of the perfect Italian design DNA.

The car is very classic and chic, and is designed with the modern motorist in mind. The Fiat 500 isa stylish and minimalist just like the Gucci S/S 11 catwalk collection (below). It’s a combination of clean lines, and both a neutral palette, and this summer’s hottest trend: colour blocking.

I’d love to have this on a driving tour around the Italian Lakes!

Style of the Summer: The Fedora

My favourite accessory this summer is the fedora hat. It is effortlessly cool, can be worn with a multitude of casual chic outfits and is a godsend on bad hair days. It is regularly sported by such trend setters as Nicole Richie, Keira Knightly, Sienna Miller, Mischa Barton and Kate Moss.

The fedora is the must-have shape for the summer hat and it is not just for this season either, this style is completely timeless. It wins hands-down in the style stakes against other summer hats, such as the indie trilby, cowboy hat favoured by Britney et al, and the WAGs personal favourite, the baseball cap. Gucci have a beautiful fedora in their S/S 09 collection, as seen in their ad campaigns and on the catwalk (below), and TopShop also have a great selection of more affordable versions.
