The Rituals Laughing Buddha launch couldn’t have launched at a better time. It was just before the heatwave and therefore ideal timing for all of my frantic skin preparations. The collection was the perfect companion in needing to get my skin cleaned, exfoliated, moisturised and looking beach ready for my Devon/Cornwall break. Thank you Rituals!
This week, I attended the beautiful launch of Penhaligon’s latest fragrance Iris Prima, in partnership with the English National Ballet.
Having worked closely with the English National Ballet and two of its lead dancers (Nathan Young and Lauretta Summerscales), Penhaligon’s have managed to encapsulates the essence of the ballet in their latest perfume.
The great thing about Penhaligon’s is that they really do throw themselves in to their research. The project has been two years in the making and they have been dedicated to finding the most authenticate smell with master perfumer Alberto Morillas. The whole company is really immersed in this research, and everyone from the finance to the IT team has visited the English National Ballet in this period to experience the ballet first hand.
Penhaligon’s also interviewed a variety of people at the English National Ballet to ask what smell most signified the ballet for them. The answers are fascinating, everything from blood, sweat and tears to jealousy and competition.
The finished result is a beautiful luminous and elegant scent.
Heads notes: citrus, green amber and pink pepper.
Heart notes: iris absolute, jasmine sambac, hedione and paradisone.
Base notes: leather, vanilla, sandalwood, vetiver and benzoin.
Destination Skin kindly invited me to try out their DermaQuest Signature Stem Cell Facial on Saturday at their Maddox Street address. Perhaps it was hearing about my plight of getting my skin ‘summer ready’ or simply that they saw they my skin could do with some rejuvenation (I assume it was the latter).
Lately, my skin has been looking dehydrated after one too many nights out and sun damage is catching up with me after spending many a childhood summer in Italy. The Stem Cell Facial was the perfect antidote to restore my skin and give it a healthy glow.
First, the friendly and informative Michelle exfoliated my skin to remove dead skin cells and then performed a face massage to activate the serums to improve circulation. This left my skin feeling plump and refreshed. The key here is the active enzyme, Pepsin, which helps to rejuvenate and repair the skin.
Finally, a face mask was applied to firm and tone the skin. It was left on for 15 minutes until hard and I was left in a trance like state in the dark until the mask was ready to be removed. It was blissfully relaxing.
Despite suffering from a long week at work, lack of sleep and a hangover the facial had instant results. My skin looked plump and firm, and restored a healthy glow. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for a facial with instant effects, it genuinely does give you a glowing complexion straight afterwards and I am still getting comments about my healthy skin five days afterwards.
If you haven’t yet seen the photography of Nirrimi Hakanson then get ready to be impressed. I discovered her after a friend recently recommend that I look at her collection. These photos have such a raw beauty that I can’t stop looking at them. I still can’t quite believe that Nirrimi is just 18!
Nirrimi has been photographing since she was 13 and is heavily inspired by her bucolic northern Queensland home. All of her photos have a certain naivety and youthful feel about them.

Osman is known for his architectural designs for the thinking woman, and this was certainly the case at London Fashion Week A/W 11.
The hair and beauty being created backstage were strictly architectural too, with black, shoulder-length, angled bobs being clipped.
The look that Osman wanted to resemble was: ‘I have been up all night cutting my hair with my boyfriend’s clippers, my bangs are too long but I am hiding behind my fringe.’ This hung on the wall as a mantra for the stylists. However, my personal favourite was the line, ‘Think about chopping vegetables.‘ Needless to say that a designers’ creative license is greater than yours or mine...
The result was a chic and edgy look which echoed the designs from the collection. I’m sure that we’ll see this look coming to a street near you...
